Sixth day in Romania

In the morning on our last day, we met with a high official in Buzu, the president of the city. He started holding a speech and then it was expected by each countries project manager to say a few words.

I said something like:

Sweden have focused on the "joy of learning". Building bridges between people are something more than just an abstract metaphor. We do this by meeting in everyone's environment. Travelling along changes us forever. We must question our pre-conceptions about each other and we do that for sure by meeting in different places. We have here in Romania met a beautiful country, but particularly amazing rare students and staff, which embraced us with open arms. Thanks for inviting and hosting us.

After me it was Turkey who would speak and Ibrahim, who took over after Ezra (she is at home with a small newly arrived baby) was nervous. He made a nice little speech and was obviously relieved afterwards. Nevertheless, I believe that his speech most reached our hearts. The joy and warmth expressed of his voice could not be communicated through internet or a formal meeting.

Fifth day in Romania

We had to see the famous castle where Dracula lived. We went with bus for hours, we first visited one of the most modern castles in Europe when built, The royal castle of Ferdinand.

Third day in Rumania

The third day we went through the mountains, visiting a museum with animals and then a cave in a magnificent natural environment.

Second day in Romania

It has been raining since we arrived, no not the first day that it was really nice. The first day we visited the school where we were divided into different groups.

Then we visited a mud volcano.

The Erasmus trip has been a different experience. The primary aim of the trip was to be aware of why we should protect the environment, and I feel like I have learnt a lot about this topic. Through different activities, I am now fully aware of the environmental issues and how we can prevent it. For example, we visited the mud volcanoes in Magura and learnt about the place and how pollution is threatening and polluting the volcanoes. The trip was a good experience which allowed me to be fully aware of environmental issues and the importance of it.

First day in Romania

Started very early in a very snowy Stockholm Sweden at 4:45 at Arlanda Terminal 2.

It was Daniel, Ms. Anneli, Yoonsik, Alejandro, Axel and Ms. U. We flew with AirBerlin in an almost empty plane. The boys could spread out in it and sleep, but they did not, instead they had a deep conversation.

During the day we saw some proof of recycling awareness in Bucharest.

The boys got some LIE to spend in one of the biggest mals of Europe.

Axel bought a set of cards with strange advices on how to socialise with the other gender. 
Ms. Anneli enlightened him with some life skills contradicting the cards. 

The boys are now with their host families and we are at the hotel.

We missed one of the students, Giordan, but heard from her mum that she was coming with another plane due to some misunderstandings. Actually she is on her way right now. Ms. Anneli will go to Bucharest and meet her in half an hour . The head master for the school we are visting has arranged a ride with his car and a driver who speaks nothing but Rumanian, but Ms. Anneli will manage through body language and gestures as the drama teacher she is.

The country which name have many spellings of it....

I read the poster for making bags that Carmen and Minjeung did, which I had read before the printed it out. And all of a sudden I thought, oh!!!! so the country which we will go to next is not spelled correctly, and if so that would be my fault as being the teacher. But then when I looked it up I now know that it can be spelled in different ways in English. Rumania, Romania and Roumania. (tle last one gets a red underline from Google though as if spelled wrong).

Reduce Reuse Recycle
Things we  should all do
Everyone plays their part
Still Ill being talking to all of you
All day everyday
Instead of paying money
Pay back the environment you live in
Cause wasting products ain’t funny

What others discard, we spare
Creating bags out of thin air
Using used t-shirts for others to share
Selling for a reasonable fare

T-shirts, pants, shoes you name it
For other valuables we trade it
But if torn dont worry
Something for others we’ll it

In the future our children
Will know the difference we gave them
So contribute now
So we don't rely on someone else to save them

Today we got five new students

We divided all students in four groups, Poetry, Collectingboxes for used T-shirts, Poster for the Bag  Competition, and a investigation and plan for how we can implement a better system for bins in all class rooms.

First lesson we tried to get to know each other through numbers. The bag that I have worked on as a reused one is not so suitable since I found out from Ms. Celino that the material in VHS-tapes are poisoned. So we need to think it over.

The description of the Enrichment course for 2016/2017

Reduce Reuse Recycle – joy of learning
SIS is part of a project that includes seven schools in Europe from north to south and from east to west Sweden, Poland, Rumania, Czech Republic, France, Spain and Turkey. The project is supported by Erasmus+. The theme of the project is the use of resources.  How we actually can reduce our 'throwaway' mentality! How we can open our eyes to the fact that we borrow from our next generation by making use of more than we give back of our natural environment. A bleak subject, it may seem. But it's never too late to give up - so why do it now? So what is likely for us involved to actually implement in everyday life of school - You are in charge owning your development through a creative project within enrichment. It is based on the desire to do. Wanting to change! and the feeling that it makes a difference! Some of the students in the enrichment group will go on a field trip to Rumania in November and some might go to Check Republic next year. Below are the units of work you can chose to work with.
  •       create ’green’ tour guides
  •       plant a tree - a day against deforestation - small actions can make a big impact
  •       forest day celebration or other themes for celebration
  •       project to make a school garden or adopt a park
  •       organize an environmental day for others teens (series of workshops) to discuss local environmental issues
  •       organize competition of poetry about project theme
  • create a shopping bag out of wasted material.

I am of work for almost two months and are enjoying the warm weather in Sweden. I am also surfing on internet and stumbled over a great web page with lesson practice linked with the Swedish curriculum and environmental goals.

Planning for what comes next in this project

It was decided in Poland that we were all in our schools going to prepare proposals on bags expressing reuse. It came up various solutions. 

Either simple bags with messages that cause us to take greater responsibility for our throwaway mentality. 

Or that the bag itself is made of recycled materials. One can, for example chrochet bags of old plastic bags or old videotapes. It is only the creativity that sets the limits. 

The next meeting is with both teachers and students and the journey goes to Romania in early November. The penultimate meeting will be as in the Czech Republic also with both students and teachers during the early spring of 2017. Our final meeting is only a teacher and then the report shall be written and then carry your trip to Turkey.

Ninth Day in Poland and back to Sweden

We happily arrived at Arlanda this morning ... after a long journey

.... which started up a bit stiff but ended up in lots of hugs and wet eyes. 

Bridges were built over Europe between young people with the theme of saving ourselves and our world and cherish diversity.

Eighth day in Poland - Old town

A guided tour which was very informative. We got to understand that the town was built up after the war which was unbelievable since the old houses had patina which was very similar to Old Town of Stockholm.

Seventh day in Poland - Funka / Warzaw

We did art craft with sweat and tears which all turned out neat.

From Funka in a long bus drive to Warsaw and it rained when we arrived.

We arrived at a new hotel.

Sixth day in Poland - Funka

Leva & Zelda: Today was the day where we left Inowroclaw and went to Funka. After being used to all the bus rides we learnt how to space each other out on the bus so that we could be comfortable and get a maximum space for ourselves. The bus ride was only around 3 hours so it was not too bad. 

When we finally arrived their my first worry was if they had internet, and of course they didn’t as we were in the middle of the forest. Before starting any activities we got our houses and rooms sorted and claimed our beds.  We still had some free time before lunch and the activities so me and Zelda took the opportunity to use the bathrooms. It was an interesting experience as  the bathrooms had a lack of any paper, so we talked to the organisers and soon enough we had some toilet paper. 

Lunch was nice as we got to try some traditional polish soup that turned out to be really good. The others at our table told us that you either hate it or love it and apparently we were the few to love it. 

After lunch we split into groups of our countries and did separate activities. 

Our first activity was a visit to the swamp. It was interesting to learn about its archaeological history. We also got a chance to walk in the swamp but very few volunteered to. Emelie was brave and did walk through some of it. (se other post in this blog)

Our next activity was pottery, so we got to create our own vases or mug’s out of clay.  The last activity which I personally think is the best was the boat ride. The guy who took us on the boat had only learned how to drive it 3 weeks ago, but we learnt that it is fairly easy to learn as we got to help out steer the boat ourselves.  It was nice and refreshing after a long warm day.

Daniel: Just as I got comfortable in my hotel room in Inowroclaw, we had to pack and leave for a little village called Funka. Honestly I had no idea on what to expect, I only knew that I was going to be on a bus for a long time.

Biodiversity in Poland

Herb Garden 

In Poland we visited an ecological herb garden where they had compost and non chemical grown herbs and plants. 


All herbs were in coexistent relations, meaning they were helping each other grow. There, we saw a chart that showed which herbs helped other herbs grow and which “fought” each other if they were planted together with the wrong plant.
Poland’s Forests
Poland is the fourth most forested country in Europe with 30% of the land covered by forests.(around 100,000 km2) There are 70 different naturally growing trees in Poland. There are four very common trees in Poland and they are the Scots Pine, Oak, Silver Birch and the Norwegian Spruce. Swamp are made when plants grow over water.
